Free Homework Log Template for Tutors
A homework log template for tutors — assignment, due date, submission status, and feedback. Works in Sheets or as a checklist before you upgrade to a homework portal.
What is it?
A homework log is a running list of every assignment you give each student: what it was, when it is due, whether they submitted, and your feedback. It stops "I thought that was optional" conversations.
What to include
- Student name
- One log per student or combined sheet.
- Assignment date
- When you assigned it.
- Task description
- Specific and measurable.
- Due before lesson
- Date of next session.
- Submitted?
- Yes / No / Partial.
- Quality score or notes
- Quick feedback for next lesson.
- Follow-up action
- Reteach, extend, or move on.

- Under 8 students: one tab per student. Above that: migrate to OBRI or you will lose track.
- How specific should assignments be?
- Name exact pages, question numbers, or word counts. Vague "practice algebra" does not get done.
- What if homework is never done?
- Track completion rate monthly and discuss with parents — the log gives objective data for the conversation.
