- How much can you earn as a tutor?
- It depends on your hourly rate, how many hours you teach per week, and how many weeks per year you work. For example, $30/hour ร 20 hours/week ร 46 weeks โ $27,600 gross per year. Use the calculator above to model your own numbers, including tax and expenses.
- How many working weeks should I assume per year?
- Most independent tutors work 44โ48 weeks per year, allowing for holidays and slow periods (e.g. summer or exam-season gaps). 46 weeks is a realistic default.
- Is tutoring income taxable?
- Yes. In most countries, tutoring income must be declared and is subject to income and/or self-employment tax. The calculator lets you enter an estimated tax rate, but you should confirm your obligations with a local accountant.
- How do I actually increase my tutoring income?
- The three levers are: raise your rate, fill more billable hours, and reduce no-shows and unpaid lessons. Tracking your schedule and payments closely (which OBRI automates) is usually the fastest way to recover lost income.
